Lt. Linda Godette, Special Operations

& Volunteer Coordinator

Lieutenant Godette started as a Patrol Officer with the New Bern Police Department in 1988. For her work in the Narcotics Division from 1989 through 1996, Lieutenant Godette was recognized for her state and federal OCEDTF anti-drug work by the DEA, ATF, and numerous state law enforcement agencies. During her time as a Narcotic Investigator, she worked as a member of the Neuse River Drug Task Force and Multi-Jurisdiction Drug Task Force.

She was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in February 1996 and became a first line supervisor in the Patrol Division. She was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in September 2000 and served as the District 1 Commander for the Operations Division.   She then served as Assistant Commander for the Criminal Investigations Unit until March 2006.   Lt. Godette then served as District 2 Commander until January 2007 and was later named Commander of the Special Operations Division. In 2010, Lt. Godette also took on coordination of the NBPD volunteer corps.

The Special Operations Division encompasses a wide variety of duties, that include but are not limited to the following:

Special Events - Preparing Task Orders for major city events like Mumfest, Duffest, Fourth of July, the Christmas Parade and Flotilla, etc.

Traffic Enforcement Unit - The Traffic Unit consists of a Sergeant and several officers who have received specialized training in traffic accident reconstruction and investigation. In addition, they provide public safety announcements to schools, civic organizations and the general public. Much of the equipment used by the Traffic Unit was provided by grants from the Governor's Highway Safety program.

Street Crimes Unit - There are two Street Crimes Units led by a Sergeant and a rotation of police officers who handle specific tasks, duties and special operations throughout the city.

Bicycle Patrol Officers - Officers specially trained to patrol neighborhoods and business districts on bicycles.

Police Patrol Boat and Crew - A U.S. Coast Guard certified boat and crew available for water patrol or emergencies

K-9 Police Dogs and Handlers - All K-9's are proficient in drug searches, tracking, and handler protection.
