Police - Support Services Commander

Brenda Garvey is a native of New Bern. She was employed with the City from 1979-1980, 1981-1984 and 1986 until present and held positions in a variety of city departments to include Administration, Electric, Human Resources and in June of 1992, she transferred to the Police Department.

She served in a variety of administrative roles until 2006 when she was promoted to her current position as Support Services Section Commander. This includes the Financial Unit, Information Services Unit and Property Management which covers functions such as logistics, financial, and administration. The responsibilities are budget formulation and execution, payroll, purchasing, data/records management, front desk operations, facility and vehicle maintenance and supply to include property and evidence management.

Garvey received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration: Management and Organizational Development from Mount Olive College in 1998. She has attended the Institute of Government in Chapel Hill for Basic Personnel Administration, Accounting Parts I & II, Budgeting and Financial Planning Part I & II and Leadership Craven. She is a member of the Strategic Planning and the All Hazards Committees with the police department. She has been an instructor in a wide variety of areas within the city government to include: computer training, records management systems, payroll, performance evaluations and the orientation for new hires.
