NEW PROGRAMS
Stroller Fitness
This exercise class offered to parents incorporating complete work out with babies and toddlers within an arm’s reach. Classes include: basic yoga, cardio, and interval exercises increasing strength, endurance, and flexibility. Stroller Fitness incorporates exciting parent and baby/toddler interaction. Celebrate parenthood, friendship, and your health and wellness by participating. Classes meet Monday’s from 10:00am – 10:45am at Union Point Park Gazebo. Shake and Shine
This is a parent and child/toddler interactive fitness program that promotes positive learning experiences through exercise. Programs will instill healthy lifestyle habits through movement by increasing large motor skills, improving social development, and creativity among the children and parents. Classes will incorporate aerobics, yoga, music, stories and games. Classes will be held at the Union Point Park Gazebo on Mondays, beginning September 13th to October 18th between 11am to 11:45 am. Pilates in the Park
Pilates will improve overall body fitness; including flexibility, abdominal and postural strength, elongating muscles, and creating balance between body and mind. Classes will meet Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30-9:30 at the Union Point Park Gazebo. Price is $72.00 for the 6 week session which begins on September7th to October 14th. INDOOR GARAGE SALE
New Bern Parks & Recreation invites you to set up a booth at our fall “Indoor Garage Sale”. Dig out those old clothes, dishes, toys, games, and other items that you no longer use. Set up your booth, and make some money! (No food or animals please).
The Garage Sale will be held on September 25th from 7am-11am, INSIDE at West New Bern Recreation Center. (1225 Pine Tree Drive, next to Kidsville). Each booth space is only $20. All booth space fees will be donated to our Teen Council - YAAC (Young Adults Active in the Community), to help fund Conferences and activities......you keep 100% of the profit from your sales!
Registration is easy! Just call 639-2902 and register before September 22. Even if you have nothing to sell, come and see the treasures that await you!

Ceramic Class Sign Up
The New Bern Recreation and Parks Department is holding registration for the 2010 Fall Ceramics Classes for ages 15 and above. Registration begins August 9th, at West New Bern and continues until classes are full. Classes will begin the week of September 7th and end the week of December 13th. Classes are held at West New Bern Recreation Center. For more information call 639-2912.

Mumfest 5K and Fun Walk
New Bern Parks and Rec. Mumfest 5K and Fun Walk
New Bern Parks and Rec. is offering a 5K/ Fun Walk October 10, 2010. Things will kick off at Union Point Park at 7:30am for the 5K and 7:35 for the Fun Walk. For questions contact Rob Maglicic (252)639-2907 or by email maglicicr@newbern-nc.org

Go to the Stanley White Rec. Center or West New Bern Rec. Center and register in the front office.

Early Registration: $20
Day of the Race Registration: $25 until the start of the race on October 10. Participants may register at Union Point Park starting at 6:45am on the day of the race. T-Shirts guaranteed to all pre-registered runners and walkers
Race Information: This flat course race begins at Union Point Park and goes through the scenic New Bern Historic District. Awards will be presented to the overall 1st, 2nd, 3rd place male and female runners and in each age group. All preregistered runners under 12 years old and younger will receive a special finisher award. The awards ceremony will follow 15 minutes after the conclusion of the race.

Coed Volleyball
New Bern Parks & Recreation is offering a Adult Coed Volleyball League for players 16 and up. This league will begin in late September. Games will be played on Monday evenings at the West New Bern Rec. Center. The cost of this league is $20 per participant. A meeting for the league will held on Monday, August 30 at the West New Bern Rec Center at 7pm to determine details for the season. This league is for players of all skill levels and is to promote physical activity of adults. Entire teams or individuals are welcome. Each team must have 3 women on the court at all times and games will be determined by a best of 3 format. Paint With Us
New Bern Parks and Recreation is sponsoring an exciting program for painters called “Paint With Us”. Interested participants can come out, bring their easel, paint, brushes and paint with other painters. There is no cost for this program, all you need to do is show up and be ready to paint and have fun! “Paint With Us” is held on Mondays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Beginners are welcome!!!
