Yoga & Pilates in the Park

Union Point Gazebo

Yoga and Pilates will improve overall body fitness; including flexibility, abdominal and postural strength, elongating muscles, and creating balance between body and mind. Come prepared to relax your mind, strengthen your body, and energize your spirit with a beautiful view of the Neuse and Trent Rivers.

The Yoga & Pilates Fusion Class will meet Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30-9:30 at the Union Point Park Gazebo. Fall Session begins September 6th.  Participants have the option to purchase 6 classes for $36, 10 classes for $60, or $7 individual class.

STROLLER FITNESS

Exercise Class offered to parents and caregivers incorporating a complete work out with babies and toddlers within an arm’s reach. Classes include cardio, interval exercises, and basic yoga increasing strength, endurance, and flexibility.    Stroller Fitness incorporates exciting parent and baby/toddler interaction. Celebrate parenthood, friendship, and your health and wellness by participating in the Stroller Fitness Class!

The fall session will meet on Monday mornings from 10:30-11:30 am at the Union Point Park Gazebo starting September 12th.   Participants have the option to purchase 6 classes for $36, 10 classes for $50, or $7 for an

individual class.

Youth Council

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS 101 - morning classes

 New Bern Parks and Recreation will be offering free basic computer applications classes, starting Tuesday, February 7, 2012 and ending Wednesday, February 29, 2012.  You will learn basic skills such as learning home row keys, make flyers, banners, posters, resumes, cover letters and signs. There are be 4 sessions (two on Tuesday and two on Wednesday 9:00am-10:15am and 10:45am-12:00 noon) of each week.  Classes will take place at Stanley White Recreation Center.  The registration and classes are FREE but YOU MUST REGISTER BY FEBRUARY 2 and SPACES ARE LIMITED.   Please contact Jermaine Thomas to register at 252-639-2922.

Festival of Fun


This annual event has become one of Eastern North Carolina’s best children’s festivals!  Each year, approximtely 4,000 people join us at Union Point Park for a day full of games, arts & crafts, educational information, and fun.

VIP Trips

We have teamed up with Craven County Services for the Blind and are now offering trips for visually impaired persons.  Trips have included visits to the North Carolina Library for the Blind in Raleigh, Lions Industries for the Blind in Kinston, the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher, the Spice Boquet in Kinston, and an upcoming movie studio tour in Wilmington.

VIP Fishing Tournament

New Bern Parks and Recreation is proud to be a part of this annual trip to the Outer Banks. For years, we have provided transportation to Craven County's Visually Impaired People so that they may enjoy themselves on this week-long adventure. The 2008 trip proved very fruitful for one special VIP, Pete Pederman.  Pete came in 1st place for cathching the most fish from our boat, The Crystal Dawn.

Lil’ KidsStuff Corner

at Mumfest


New Bern Parks and Recreation coordinates the kids corner for Mumfest. Geared especially for kids 10 and under, Lil’ KidsStuff offers physical activities, arts and crafts, jump-rope contests, a puppet show, and more. A baby-changing station is also provided for parent's convenience. Join us for fun, games, activities, and more.

Preschool Parade

This annual October parade is for preschool age children and their parents or teachers.  Children dress in their Halloween costumes and parade down Middle Street and into Union Point Park.  Registration is necessary for groups.

Begins at the corner of Broad and Middle Street, downtown New Bern.  In the case of inclement weather, we will parade at the West New Bern Recreation Center at 1225 Pine Tree Drive.

Coastal Christmas

Flotilla

New Bern Parks and Recreation proudly hosts the annual Coastal Christmas Flotilla!  This is a magical evening in early December of bright lights, beautiful boats, and music.  Santa greets the children in Union Point Park afterwards.

Seniorcise

 

New Bern Parks & Recreation is sponsoring the “Seniorcise” aerobics class for all senior citizens, Mondays from 9am-10am, from September 12, 2011 through May, 2012. MOMMY & Me

New Bern Parks and Recreation will be hosting Mommy & Me. This program is ideal for toddlers; it helps improve their motor and communication skills. Classes will be held every third Wednesday of the month from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Classes will be held at Stanley White Rec. Center located at: 901 Chapman Street.  There is no charge for this program. For more info please contact Ashley Parham @ 639-2913.

                          Bingo For Seniors                    

New Bern Recreation Department is sponsoring a “Saturday Bingo” program for seniors.  Interested participants can come out and be ready to spend a couple of hours playing Bingo.

There is a small fee of $1.00 per card and anyone that is interested is welcome to attend. This program will be held the third Saturday of each month starting in January, from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. at Stanley White Recreation Center.  There will be early sign up, for more information, please call: 639-2913.
